The Ridge High School girls’ golf team, three-time defending state champions, once again prevailed at the NJSIAA Section 1 Qualifier hosted by the Stanton Ridge Golf and Country Club in Readington Township on Tuesday. The course was played at 5,155 yards with a par of 71.
With the victory the Ridge team advanced to the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions at the Cherry Valley Country Club next Wednesday. The top four teams moved onto the states as Ridge (323) was followed by Hunterdon Central (335), Tenafly (348) and Bergen Tech (362).
Ridge was led by Carolyn Wang’s 77, followed by Monica Schumacher (80), Christine Wang (81) and Yunhee Kang (85). Freshman Katie Lee’s 79 was best for Central, with Jess Wild (82), Marissa Castaldo (87) and Julia Tonnessen (87) completing the scoring. Central won the state title in 2009 and 2010.
Individually, Tenafly’s Eunwon Park ran away from the field with a one-under par 70. Park posted four birdies against one bogey on the front nine, posting 33. She followed up with a 37 that included a double bogey on the par-4 10th hole.
