Swarthmore-bound Hunterdon Central graduate Amanda Beebe of Whitehouse Station lead the GGG contingent at the Rutgers Open in the junior miss division. The former GGG player and student-intern fired a solid first round 82 followed by another 82 in round two (42-40) to tie for fifth in the 21-player field.
Next up for Beebe is representation of her "home course" and GGG venue Raritan Valley Country Club in the 86th Womens' Amateur Championship on Tuesday August 2 at Hackensack Golf Club. The link below lists the full field and tee times.

Alex Yang of Princeton high school played well shooting (84) on day one and (41-47-88) on day two for ninth place. She will be representing Mercer Oaks golf club in the NJ State Womens' Amateur Championship.
Most improved honors during round one and two go to to GGGers: Zora Moore of Delaware Valley Regional high school and Jess Wild of Hunterdon Central high school.
Zora Moore followed up a first round (97) with a second round (42-45-87) earning her twelfth place. Zora's round included two back-to-back birdies on the par four fifth and sixth holes.
Jess Wild shot 104 in round one and improved eleven shots in round two (48-45-93) for 15th place.
Marissa Castaldo of Hunterdon Central Regional high school made a good showing in her first 36-hole event with (56-54-110) and (54-52-106) finishing in 19th place.
Another Red Devil teammate of Beebe, Wild and Castaldo Liz Dryden posted a (107) in round one but withdrew due to an injury and did not post a score in round two.
Finally, Kaitlin Flynn teed it up in the nine-hole division shooting a 55.

Hole-in-one by GGGer Kaitlin Flynn
GGG participant 10-year-old Kaitlin Flynn of Copper Hill Country Club had a hole-in-one yesterday in the 57th NJ Junior Girls' championship at Trenton Country Club in Ewing, NJ.
This is Kaitlin's first golf tournament.
She scored the ace on the 13th hole (par 3, 110 yards) at Trenton Country Club using a pitching wedge. She was entered in the 9-hole division and shot 51-58 over the two days!
Zora Moore, Jess Wild and Alex Yang played in the 2-day 18-hole division.

1. Daughter's name, age, name of school, grade-level & favorite color
2. Parents names, cell phone contact, how did you hear about the program?
3. Golf level:
beginner
intermediate (shoots in the 50s or less for nine holes),

Girls looking to play golf this fall have an opportunity to do so in the fourth season Girls Go Golfing Fall Girls' Golf Series running in September and October.
"This nine-event series for girls in 4th-12th grades will feature a variety of skill levels," said director Lydia Siipola, the recently retired Hunterdon Central High School girls' golf coach. "The goal is to provide an avenue and incentive for players to hone their skills. Girls Gone Golfing is all about encouraging friendly competition in the spirit of the game. It is open to girls from throughout and beyond Hunterdon County."
Girls will play up to nine holes each day, entering a minimum of two events.The competitive atmosphere will feature a variety of formats similar to the Solheim, Ryder, Curtis or Walker Cup.
"We are fortunate that the USGA is located a stone's throw from Hunterdon County," noted Siipola," My idea is that parents and participants take the trip to Far Hills to play the Pynes Putting Course and visit Golf House and the Museum during the summer to get psyched for golf in the fall." The total cost of the series is $30, to be paid at the first event with a maximum of 24 girls participating.
"Hunterdon County has a plethora of golf courses and facilities where juniors can ask their parents to take them to improve upon their golf skills, said Siipola. "GGG wants the participants and their parents to spend some quality time playing golf' games whilst they practice putting and chipping and all those other shots that are close to the green. "Just like organized soccer or softball leagues, GGG gives participants a reliable and consistent schedule of events. The events provide the incentive for players to improve their short game skills on their own and with the help of a local golf professional."
The series will begin at Heron Glen on Tuesday, Sept. 6 with the first tee time of 4:00 p.m. All questions and registration will be handled electronically at: jsiip@comcast.net

ANNIKA SKYPES HALEY FILIPPINI--How Cool is THAT??

Below is the latest update from the CHOP CarePages for Hayley---read on to learn about her BIG SURPRISE from a WORLD-CLASS golfer:

OK the surprise is no longer a surprise. Hayley was given a wonderful surprise from the Ashley Lauren Foundation---They got Annika Sorenstam (Hayley's all-time favorite golfer) to skype her. They brought a laptop and told her that a friend wanted her to skype them. She tried, but the picture wouldn't come up. Hay could hear the voice and thought she recognized the voice. All of a sudden, her picture came up, and Hayley yelled, "It's Annika. Hi Annika. Oh my gosh, it's Annika". They talked for awhile, and Hay told her that they've met before. Annika told her that of course she knew Hayley and her cousin Tara, and that she remembers them from Fiddlers' Elbow when she gave a couple of clinics. She told her that she knows that the photographer took a few pictures of Annika, Hayley, and Tara and that they were put in the newspaper. She asked how Tara was feeling because she had written to Tara when she had brain surgery a year and a half ago. She also sent both girls signed pictures of the three of them. She told Hayley that now that they are friends on Skype, how about if they call each other once a month to catch up. Hay is still in shock!!! We were just told that Annika went on Twitter and wrote that she was just talking and hanging with her friend, Hayley Filippini and hopes she is feeling well. WOW!!!! Unbelievable. Thank you to the Pragers for getting us in touch with this amazing organization!!!!
I would like to tell you about Hayley's vital signs, but she hasn't come off of the cloud yet, so the nurses decided to wait for another hour to take them.
Have a wonderful weekend and please keep Hay in your prayers along with all of the other kids here---especially MacKenzie who is trying to come home this weekend for a golf tournament, but can't seem to kick a fever!!!

As the tournament came to a close on it's last day, Sunday 5/22, I was lucky enough to be the standard bearer for the Championship match. The day started off with two matches; one between Christie Kerr and Angela Stanford and the other between Suzann Petterson and Na Yeon Choi (or as the commentators called her, NYC!) Kerr and Stanford had a close match. I thought Stanford was going to win but Kerr came back and was able to win #18. And for Petterson and Choi, Petterson won on hole #16. So from there I knew that for the Championship match I was working with Petterson and Kerr.
It was a fun, exciting and suspenseful match. Petterson stayed UP most of the match. Kerr evened it out at hole 8. One of the highlights (or I guess lowlights) is when Kerr missed her putt on 11. She had a chance to make it All Square but then missed her 2 or 3 foot putt. She had numerous chances to even out the score or go 1 UP throughout the back nine and each one she missed just on the rim of the hole. On hole 17 Kerr made a long putt to have the match continue onto hole 18. Petterson and Kerr both hit their drives on 18 about the same distance, Kerr a little further. They hit their shots over the first brook a goood distance. Petterson hit her approach shot onto the green, a good length from the hole. Kerr hit hers next and landed it closer. They got the green, Petterson lined up her long putt and hit it in the hole...FOR THE WIN!!!
It was such an exciting finish! Anna Nordqvist came running out onto the green with a bottle of champagne and squirted it on Petterson! Onc. e they finished their interviews and hugs, I asked both players for signed golfballs. At the end of the weekend, I ended up with four signed golfballs, Paula Creamer, Angela Stanford, Christie Kerr and Suzann Petterson. It was very exciting!
The whole weekend was so much fun and such a good experience. I did get a good amount of TV time on yesterday's coverage! That was so cool! I will definitely be back next year, holding that sign, in the ropes, with the pros! I hope to be back with the blogs as well! It was a pleasure being able to provide some insight to the job of a standard bearer volunteer at a professional golf event. I hope you enjoyed it as well! See you next year! :)
