GIRLS’ GO GOLFING ANNOUNCEMENT – JULY 9, 2012

Dear GGG-ers and other girls’ golf enthusiasts…

After four successful seasons of GGG, I have decided that it is no longer possible for me to continue the program in the fall of 2012.

Due to my health issues and the fact that we are 90 minutes from Hunterdon County, Johnny and I have decided that this is the best course of action.

GGG, along with coaching the Hunterdon Central girls’ golf team, has been an amazing experience and it is my hope that those involved will continue to work on their games as well as the positive aspects of their lives. Take lessons, work on your skills, play the game with your friends, advocate for girls’ golf and continue to enjoy golfing.

My physicians have recommended that I continue to “rest” through the fall, in accordance with the “new” treatment plan I have been following since last December. Johnny and I are hopeful that my health will improve after this year – it has been 10 rough years since I was my “old self” back in 2002.

I will continue to promote girls’ and women’s golf throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania and hopefully I will once again be an active force in the sport when 2013 rolls around.

The 2012 Summer Jr. Golf Tour is a seven event competition OPEN to ANY youth ages 13—18 to participate in competitive tournaments dur-ing the summer. Competition will be broken into 3 flights for both boys & girls.

58th NJSGA Junior Girls´ Championship Monday-Tuesday, 9-10, 2012Jumping Brook Country Club - Neptune, NJ New Jersey State golf association website Championship Information: The Championship at Jumping Brook Country Club will be 36 Holes, Stroke Play. Eighteen holes will be played each day (Monday & Tuesday).  The Champion will be the player with the lowest 36 hole aggregate score. In the event of a tie for the Championship, a hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately upon the completion of play to determine the winner.  The Championship will be limited to the first 90 players whose entries are received by the NJSGA prior to the close of entries on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. 9 Hole Division - In addition to the 36-hole Championship, a nine hole tournament will be available for girls who wish to participate in an organized competition but prefer not to play in the 36-hole Championship.  The event will be nine holes each day. 2011 was the inaugural year of the PGA of America Ryder Cup Junior Academy and it was a huge success. The 2012 Ryder Cup Junior Academy is scheduled for the week of July 1st - 8th and is limited to just 96 juniors. The New Jersey Section will be sending 1 boy and 1 girl representative and anyone interested should read the fact sheet below and fill out the attached application which needs to be submitted to Chris Hunt no later than February 1st, 2012. 2012 US Kids Golf - North Jersey Summer Local Tour

The New Jersey Section will once again be administering US Kids Golf tournaments for kids ages 5-14. To register, you will need to visit www.uskidsgolf.com and select the Tournament tab, then Local Tours. Before you can register for any tournaments you must become a member. Directions for registering for your membership are also posted on their website.

This week long program starts at the cup and works back. Children will start off with the short game and work toward mid-irons, and by the end of the week will be using woods. The program also covers rules, golf etiquette, and playing experience on the practice holes.

Well, things were a little hot & humid today in Elverson, PA!!!! 

In honor of my twin sister, Rose's birthday on May 29, Johnny & I whipped up a batch of her favorite flavor in a cupcake!! 

Notice the subtle golf ball decorations!!!!

Johnny & I played 18 holes at French Creek golf club with Rose & her fiance yesterday.

My stamina was good for 7 holes...pretty cool.  I stayed with the group and enjoyed the views & awesome company & witnessed a near hole-in-one by Rose's intended Jay Bellowoar on the scenic downhill par-3 8th hole.

Thanks to my sister Maria for sending me to the Bewitching Kitchen blog where I found the recipe through another blog  The more than occasional baker blog recipe for Reese's Surprise cupcakes!!!!

KARA MCNULTY WINS CONFERENCE TITLE- FORMER HUNTERDON CENTRAL GOLFER

Below is the Gettysburg College report from their conference tournament over the weekend.

Former HC golfer Kara McNulty (2010) of Gettysburg won the event.... 

she was part of the Hunterdon Central team (66-1 for her 4 years) that won two state titles.

Amanda Beebe (HC--2011) placed fourth-- she plays for Swarthmore and is their only golfer. Both are former GGGers.

Kara McNulty and the Bullets successfully defended their Centennial Conference title.

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – McDaniel College turned in a record-breaking day, but it wasn’t enough to catch Gettysburg College as the Bullets edged the Green Terror by two strokes at the Centennial Conference Women’s Golf Championship hosted by the Hanover Country Club.

Gettysburg won its second consecutive conference title and third in five years with a conference-record 691 over 36 holes. The Bullets topped the previous low by 23 strokes and the team needed every single one as McDaniel came in at 693, including a tournament record 339 on Sunday. The Green Terror broke the single-round record by four set by Gettysburg during Saturday’s opening round.

Sophomore Kara McNulty copied the team’s finish by claiming individual honors by two strokes over McDaniel’s Morgan Koopman. McNulty, who shot a 78 on Saturday, finished with an 80 on Sunday and was named CC Player of the Year. She shattered Gettysburg’s record for 36 holes by eight strokes and she broke the single-season scoring record by finishing the year with an 82.9 average. McNulty is the third Bullet to earn top honors at the conference tournament, following Merrill Fortier ’08 in 2008 and current teammate Caroline Nathan in 2009.

Koopman led McDaniel’s run at overcoming Gettysburg’s 11-stroke lead entering the final round. She posted the lowest final round in tournament history with a 77 and finished runner-up for the second year in a row with a 160.

Koopman was joined on the all-conference team by teammates Katherine Restrepo and Alise McNutt. Restrepo carded the third-best round on Sunday with an 83 and finished third overall at 171, while McNutt shaved four strokes off her first-round total with an 85 on day two and ended up in a tie for fifth at 174.

Freshman Lauren Sobotka joined McNulty on the All-Centennial team by placing in a tie for fifth at 174. She carded an 89 on the final day.

The remaining all-conference spot went to Swarthmore College’s lone representative Amanda Beebe, who posted an 88 in the final round and finished fourth overall at 173.

Junior Molly Nulty and Nathan just missed all-conference recognition with seventh- and eighth-place finishes, respectively. Nulty posted an 87 in the final round and notched a 177 over the two days, while Nathan shot 92 on Sunday and a 182 for the tournament. Nathan, a two-time All-CC performer, closed her career third on the program’s all-time scoring list with an average of 88.65 strokes and she finished second with eight tournament titles.

Senior Shelby Glass rounded out Gettysburg’s lineup with a 93 on Sunday. She finished tied for 12th overall at 189.

Gettysburg shattered its program record for scoring this season with a team average of 350.5 – 10 strokes better than the pace set last season. The team won tournament titles at five different events to tie its own Centennial record.

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore Kara McNulty carded the second-lowest round in school history and the Gettysburg College women’s golf team tied its lowest round ever to take the lead on the opening day of the 2012 Centennial Conference Championship at the Hanover Country Club.

Gettysburg shot a 343 on the par-72, 5,805-yard course to tie its program record set at the 2008 Dickinson College Fall Invitational. The team score was also eight strokes better than the previous conference tournament low notched by Muhlenberg College in 2007.

The Bullets will enter Sunday’s final round with an 11-stroke lead over McDaniel College (354). Susquehanna University ranked third at 397 followed by Ursinus College (428) and Muhlenberg College (350). The largest deficit ever overcome in the tournament was eight strokes in the 2008 event won by Gettysburg.

McNulty posted a career-best 78 to finish the day with a five-stroke lead over McDaniel’s Morgan Koopman for the top spot. It was the second-lowest round in school history, trailing only 2008 graduate Merrill Fortier’s 76 posted at the 2004 Dickinson Fall Invitational. McNulty’s round is also the first sub-80 score at Gettysburg since Fortier put up a 79 at the Kutztown University Fall Invitational to open the 2005 season.

Freshman Lauren Sobotka turned in a strong showing in her Centennial debut tying for third with Swarthmore College’s Amanda Beebe with an 85.

Senior Caroline Nathan and junior Molly Nulty each carded 90s to finished tied for eighth. Senior Shelby Glass rounded out the lineup with a 96 to finish tied for 14th.

Sunday’s final round is set to start at noon. Gettysburg is seeking its second consecutive conference championship and third overall.

Two GGGers are teeing it up this weekend in a local International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) event.

Allyson Wentworth carded a first round 46-43 to stay one stroke ahead of fellow GGGer Zora Moore 44-46. Moore birdied the final par 3 142 yard 17th hole.

They currently stand at 12th and 13th place respectively in a 16-player field.

Second round continues today.
