Mark Bittman, Brussel Sprouts & Putting:Perfect Together!

Perfect food on a cold February day!
Things have been pretty blustery and cold around here lately.

We have been keeping ourselves busy by trying recipes from Mark Bittman's Food Matters cookbook http://markbittman.com/less-meat-mondays-cannelini-with-shredded-bru

Then we head downstairs to a Dave Pelz-inspired "rail"system  to practice a rhythmic in-line putting stroke.  Dave has putting drills you can use inside and outside. Checkout the following link to hear from Dave himself! http://wn.com/Dave_Pelz_Putting_Drill

Playing Twin Eagles Eagle Course Today with GGG directors Lydia & Johnny

Johnny & I were excited to play the Eagle course today at Twin Eagles golf club in Naples, Florida.

The LPGA is scheduled to tee it up here the week before Thanksgiving in 2012.

We LOVE it when we can play or walk a course the pros are going to play---it makes watching on television even more interesting because you played the course--if you ever get the chance to play a course the pros play--go for it!

I played the IV tees around 6000 yards and Johnny played the III combo tees at 6500 yards. We were guaranteed by the staff that the course was playing firm and we would get lots of roll (for shots in the fairway!) plus I was feeling incredibly energetic due to my chia seed infused oatmeal with blueberries and bananas!

I am following a new treatment regimen---let's hope that it is helping and putting me on the REAL road to recovery--stay tuned!

Our favorite hole was the drivable par 4 16th hole! It is going to provide some excitement during the tournament.

We played our usual team best ball and finished the day at 3-over par.

No eagles but two nice birdies to keep us in the mix. We found the description and photograph below at the Twin Eagles website. We managed to find a nice price on golfnow.com

"We wanted to create a remarkable experience on this course," said Smyers, who followed examples set by the ‘Golden Age’ of golf course architecture to create a course that is all about strategy and the challenge of risk/reward shots. The design forces decision making scenarios and rewards precise shot-making. "The amazing thing about this course is that the elevation changes have created a northern feel on a southern golf course," said Scott Newhouse, Director of Golf at TwinEagles. "The 9th hole is one of the neatest looking second shots into a par 4 that I’ve ever seen in the state of Florida," he added. Imaginatively shaped greens, one of which is over 15,000 square feet, will add to the allure of the new course. The best feature of this design philosophy is that it provides a different experience for golfers each time the course is played.

East Meadow, N.Y., August 30, 2011– The Women's Sports Foundation’s 32nd Annual Salute to Women in Sports will celebrate the accomplishments of the top female athletes on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. The annual fundraising gala will take place at Cipriani Wall Street and will be hosted by journalist and sportscaster Bonnie Bernstein.

This year’s remarkable group of elite athlete finalists, representing 19 sports, is vying for the evening’s top honors – Sportswoman of the Year – in Individual and Team categories.

Each year, the top 10 candidates from various disciplines are chosen for the ballot, based on their record-breaking, historic, and simply amazing athletic performances. The Women's Sports Foundation recognizes these women for incredible achievements in individual and team performances, and the 2011 ballot is nothing short of extraordinary.

Athletes were considered for the 2011 ballot based on their athletic accomplishments between August 1, 2010, and July 31, 2011. Nominations for the Sportswoman of the Year - Individual and Team awards are made by sport governing bodies and the public. Sportswoman of the Year finalists will be voted on by the Foundation Awards Committee and the public beginning on August 25, through midnight E.S.T. on September 5, 2011. For the first time, voting will take place on Facebook. To vote, visitFacebook.com/WomensSportsFoundation and browse the photo albums for Individual Sport Athlete and Team Sport Athlete finalists. To cast your vote, simply “like” the photo of an athlete in each album - Team and Individual. Fans are permitted one vote in each album.

Sportswoman of the Year honorees will be announced during the Annual Salute to Women in Sports awards gala, as well as this year’s recipients of the Billie Jean King Contribution Award, Wilma Rudolph Courage Award andANNIKA Inspiration Award. The Pac 12 Conference will also receive a special tribute during the evening’s festivities.
